Motion graphic evaluation.
I am pleased with this animation but, comparing it to Paul's which I really like, I think it could be improved with the addition of a few more different elements to it to make it more exciting, busy and varied. I am happy with the design of this piece of work as all of the colours compliment each other well, especially on multiply layers. I have learned many new skills in this project in After effects that I will definitely take forward to another project, such as 3D layers, layer styles, creating and merging multiple compositions. I believe that these skills I have learnt can be utilised well in the new commission I have been given to create the graphics for an event in London. The brief specifies bright colours so the style of video I have created for twentyseventythree would be a good source of inspiration for the work I will do for this client.
If I was to improve this video I would try and give it a more professional look, perhaps by adding motion blur to the text spin and Gaussian blur to the edge of the animation.

SWOT
With not long to go I thought it would be a good idea to do a SWOT analysis. This stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats and is a good way of assessing what I need to improve and focus on, so here it is.
Strengths: With my last few attempts I think I have got quite good at creating images on photoshop and digital painting (although I still have a lot of improving to do) I also am good at drawing and designing when I put my mind to it.
Weaknesses: My 3D work needs some practice as it would be great to get good at that. Also my general animation skills, as I am better with a still image. After effects and cinema 4D are the animation programmes to improve on. Also Adobe Illustrator would be useful to improve as I am very weak on this programme.
Opportunities: I am looking forward to doing some work experiences when I finish the course as therse are my main opportunities I have a few options. One acquaintance is starting an app company and said he would employ me on a day rate to do artwork for him which would be great as I would be earning as well as improving my skills. I also have a friend in a promotions company which has a design team, so hopefully he would be able to get some work experiance there. A friend of a friend is a successful artist working in a studio with other artists so some work experience there would be good.
Threats: Staying focussed and hard working after I finish will be hard as life has so many distractions so I will have to try and stay inspired and disciplined, finding my own work and projects.
Another threat is my competition within the industry, I can only combat this by working hard to try and get to the top of my game in animation and illustration.

Painting evaluation
I was really pleased with this digital painting as it was one of the first I have attempted. I learned a lot about painting in photoshop that only comes with sitting down and actually experimenting and using the brushes for a while. I got practiced at using shortcuts for opacity and different tools.

Life drawing
this is my recent life drawing. Different timed poses, you can probably tell which are the quick ones, some of these are the best though.

Paul Hell
Today we had a talk in class from an illustrator called Paul Hess. He showed us a portfolio full of children's book illustrations he has done. I really liked his work although its not really my style. He works mainly in watercolour but showed us some of his digital paintings he has done recently. It was great to hear about his working methods, and advice about how to get an agent. It all seemed like valuable information and was really inspiring as illustration is something I am seriously considering going into.

beginning
Here is a little look at the style of the video. The lip sink is out a bit but you get the idea. Hand in this week and I have loads to do. I have loads of little clips, now I need to edit them all together and add some more animation and overlays. I should have loads more of the video to post at the end of the week.
Tuesday, 29 January 2013
Last weeks time plan was useful but im a bit behind. I have made good progress with my printed frames and have done a cv on word. Now I need to crack on with the rest of the video, adding spline sweeps on cinema 4d and rotoscoping on photoshop. I also want to traditionally animate a beating heart this week.
Tues:. Render out whole movie on twos. Finish paper scene 5. Pull video of heart off youtube to use as template. Borrow pictoplasma books for essay.
Wed: . Line test animation so far. Do a pencil test of heart animation. Start illustrating cv.
Thurs: Plan essay further. Make logo for my animations, upload to creative accounts.
Fri: Carry on with cv. Rotoscope more frames on ps. Learn how to add video as texture on cinema 4d. Do a spline scene.
Weekend. Get on with paper frames, cv and essay.
So much to do!!
